Please note that last night 11/10/17 Saudi changed their visa fees for those who have been for Umrah already in the previous Hijri 1438 year. If you have been for Umrah from October 2016 to July 2017 you will now have to pay 2,000SAR per person extra.
The visa for 2017/2018 is open now.
This means that everyone who wants to go to Umrah from now until Ramadan 2018 can go once per year without paying any extra fees.
For those who want to go more than once per year know that there is a £500 extra fee imposed by the Saudi government. So make sure you know this if you are applying.
For example, this will apply to someone who goes for Umrah now and then goes in Ramadan 2018. Then they will have to pay the fee.
If you are not sure whether you have to pay the fee make sure you use the Hajj Ministry’s checker here.
Note that you only can issue an Umrah visa through an accredited agent.
Sadly, I can see this having many consequences for Muslims who want to go for Umrah. And so far I have received a lot of comments asking about the options from this year and who will be affected. The best way is to use the checker and see if you will have to pay as it is calculated based on Hijri year rather than the calendar year.
Can you get a visa on your own and what should you do to save money?
The answer is yes, you can issue your own visa via an accredited agent. I know many of you have a problem finding agents since they are not happy to just issue you a visa. They don’t make much money out of it.
My advice for this will be to actually ask if they will be happy to book you the visa and the flights and you find your own hotel. This way they get something out of it.
Many don’t want to provide visas only because the biggest saving and money making option is the hotel booking. However to you as an individual, this is also where you can save the most by doing a DIY Umrah yourself.
Keep ringing agents in your country and ask them to provide you with an Umrah visa and the flights only. In many cases, they will accept it. So I suggest you try this route.
