Hilton Athens Hotel Review

The hotel has left the Hilton Portfolio and went through a renovation

Recently I took a group of sisters to a women-only trip to Athens. We had so much fun that I will definitely be doing it again soon. I now feel I have made more friends which is always awesome.

For our stay in Athens, I had picked the Hilton Athens hotel for several reasons. First, I always wanted to stay there and second the location is brilliant, I was also a Diamond member so I know we would be getting lounge and breakfast included which was, of course, a bonus. Plus they have good TripAdvisor reviews.

Location

The hotel has easy access from the airport via the metro as well as the bus which goes directly there. It is also conveniently located for exploring Athens as you can walk down to Syntagma in about 10-15minutes and walk up to Mount Lycabettus in 30minutes. That is if you like the super steep hill!

The hotel itself is very nice and the high floor rooms have an amazing view of the Acropolis and Lycabettus. I had been on several occasions in the Galaxy Bar which offers the same breathtaking views but it was definitely nice to enjoy it from your balcony as well.

The Hotel

Check-in was easy and efficient, I had already called to confirm the rooms and the view so it was a matter of formalities. They did try to upsell us on several occasions but I opted not to take it since we wouldn’t have spent much time in the rooms.

The room itself is good, I can’t say I was very impressed by it, I expected a little bit better especially as the hotel prices can go up to £250 a night. However, it was spacious and offered a very comfy bed.

Breakfast

At breakfast, you are really spoiled for choice. I don’t think it can get any better than this. You had plenty of International food options as well as the hotel buffet and other greek dishes. The staff are welcoming and proactive as well when it comes to service.

I also love the fact that breakfast was open until 11 am which is almost noon and most mornings we would spend the time just chatting before we head out exploring the city.

Executive Lounge

The Executive lounge has the same beautiful view and it is definitely a nice way to relax after walking around the city. It is not very big and during happy hour it does get busy but overall it’s definitely a good place. Since we did have breakfast in the main restaurant included I never went there to check out the breakfast options, however, I’m sure it was good.

The happy hour food buffet had hot and cold options including vegetarian, fish, and pork.  I am sure we made an impression on the guests as well as staff since we were so many hijabis in the lounge. Not sure this is a common view there.

In my opinion, the staff need to get better at customer service. They were polite but a lot of the times missing. They seem to keep to themselves and you have to proactively try and find them. They did warm up to us after the second day so maybe they didn’t know how to approach us.

Overall I really like the hotel and I would happily stay there again, even just for the view of the city. It has great transportation links, it is in a safe area of Athens and it offers plenty of choice for breakfast. I don’t think you can fault it.
