Hyatt is running their standard offer of 40% extra points when you purchase 10,000 or more. I love Hyatt and I personally think that sometimes this can make sense to purchase if you have expensive stays coming up.
I mostly use their cash and points options since in some areas this can reduce the cost significantly. Assuming that you use it in expensive cities like Paris, Maldives, New York, Seoul, Vienna and for the Park Hyatt properties where the cash price is high it can be a great bargain.
Last time they run such an offer I was planning on buying the points for the Park Hyatt in New York since it was $900 per night and I could get 3 nights for a lot less.
One of the reason I might consider buying points is for future use in the new Hyatt Regency property in Makkah. The property will open towards end of the year and considering that hotels can cost up to $1000 per night during peak Umrah season, it might make sense to buy some points. You can use them for cash and points or even free nights.
The Hyatt Regency Makkah is only a category 3 property so you technically can receive 6 nights for $1320. I am pretty sure this will be cheaper than cash price in December.
I am very much looking forward to staying at this new property
