KLM promo awards are out. I like the KLM promo awards since you can find some good deals. Last month wasn’t very exciting in my opinion however this month is much better. For those of you who are not familiar with the KLM Promo Awards they are monthly discounted award routes by KLM. You can read more about them here and also about my reasons why I think KLM can offer better value, after the devaluation in some cases.
In my view the European discounts don’t make since I can spend less Avios and travel to the same destination with British Airways and Manchester to Paris is 7,500 KLM miles and it is the same from Manchester to Paris with British Airways.
For me the top routes with -50% discount this month are Muscat, Dubai and Doha in economy for only 20,000miles return. This is great value in my opinion even if you areleaving from the UK and paying the taxes it is cheaper than buying a cash price ticket. The discount on these routes is only available in September so if you manage to bookthe end of September you might avoid the very hot weather. For those who are looking for a new destination to explore I highly recommend Oman. I love this country. You can read my trip report here & here.
If you are interested in these routes and you would like to travel but don’t have KLM miles, then you can check the Amex Gold card, which with a referral will give you 22,000 points; enough for a return ticket. You can check my article here on why I think the American Express Gold Charge card is the best option for Muslim travelers.
A good thing with the KLM promotion is that Dubai and Doha are some of the destinations that seem to be discounted very often so if you decide to sign up for the Amex Gold card you can still use them later in the year. Kuwait is also on the list and I don’t think it’s the best deal since Avios only requires 25,000 points, however the tax with KLM are cheaper if you want to travel from a UK airport. You can always book only one way flights as well, so if Kuwait was on your bucket list then you can book with KLM in the outbound and on the inbound with Avios.
Another offer that stands out for me is the route to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic; a place I always wanted to visit. It is discounted at 30,000 return which is50% off which is a good deal. It is low season in the Dominican and it is something I prefer. I wish the route to Mauritius was in economy and not in Premium economy (90,000miles) since it would have been something I would book straight away as Mauritius is at the top of my bucket list. Unfortunately for 90,000 miles is not a very good deal even on Air France premium economy seat.
The only routes to the USA that are available is Houston and Boston with a discount of 25% which are an OK deal if you wanted to visit any of these cities.
