Who doesn’t want to be saving money on daily essentials such as food. I mean I would love not to eat since I do need to lose a few pounds but that seems impossible. I don’t usually write on shopping deals unless they are super good and since this has a lot to do with the £15 back from my American Express Gold card I decided to share it with you.
I found an awesome way to actually half this week’s supermarket shopping just by applying a few offers. I am not the extreme ‘couponer’ type of person unless it is easy to do and is not too time consuming. So this week I managed to shop for £80 and pay only £39 with Ocado online supermarket.
I was meaning to try Ocado for some time but never came around to it so when I saw the offer on my Amex members club and other coupons available for Ocado I decided to give them a go. Here is what I did and how you can save some real cash from this week’s supermarket shopping.
Ocado seems to compare itself with Tesco; they state that they are cheaper or equal to Tesco or they will refund you the difference. I am eagerly waiting to see if this is true since I always had the perception that shopping at Waitrose or Ocado is quite expensive. I did a short comparison of what I wanted via mysupermarkert.com before I started and it seemed that indeed Ocado is only £2-3 more expensive than Tesco. I am happy with this since my savings are a lot more.
Step 1: Cashback via Topcashback £6.30
Before I start shopping for something new I always check the Topcashback website to see if there is something available. Never underestimate the power of small percentages that add up. This year alone I have saved over £500+ just by using Topcashback. If you don’t have an account with them you can sign up for one here. I will be very thankful if you use my link and support me.
Ocado is offering £6,30 for new customers who spend over £40 with their first order. This is not an issue for me since my target was to spend £60 with Ocado.
Step 2: American Express Ocado Offer spend £60 get £15 back
One thing I love about American Express Gold card is that they always have offers for their members and can save you quite a bit of cash during the year. I think I have received well above my yearly fee of the card which for me is worth every penny. I will be writing a full post about these offers soon, but I honestly think it is the best starter card for Muslims since it’s first year is free and it’s not a credit card. You can read a full review of the card here. If you are not an Amex member you will not be able to take advantage of this offer. If you are it should be available under Offers in your account.
Step 3: Ocado Offer £20 off £80 shopping
Ocado is also offering new customer £20 off if they spend £80 with them in the first 12 weeks. You can get your £20 coupon here, I would appreciate it if you use my link since we both receive a voucher. This doesn’t sound bad so far. Even if you don’t have currently the American express card you can still have a £26 saving of your weekly shopping; plus they also offer free delivery which saves you up to £3.
- Total cost of shopping: £82 (just so I am above the minimum spend in case products are missing)
- Topcashback: £6,30
- Ocado Offer: £20
- Amex Offer: £15
- Total cost of my shopping: £41
I think this is a pretty decent deal to consider if you have never shopped with Ocado, in theory the only money you will be waiting for is the £6 from Topcashback which take about 3-4 weeks to arrive in your account. Amex cashback is fast and it takes only few days, I think it’s the most extreme couponing I have ever done as well. However I liked the idea of online shopping and not having to carry bags in the car.
P.S. If you are using Topcashback make sure you clear your cookies beforehand so it tracks properly.
P.S.S. No affiliation with Ocado, in case you were wondering, I just love good deals.
