Scamming travellers is not new, it has been around for hundreds of years. When you are out of your country or city you are out of your comfort zone so it is easier for people to scam you.
What scares me is how difficult it is today to notice when you are being scammed.
I saw this video in Vienna, a city I just visited 3 weeks ago in that exact stop, with the bank machine having a scanner to scan your card. It didn’t look like anything out of the ordinary, however if you enter your card they could copy it and use it.
This hits home since many times I do use the ATMs in the respective cities I visit to withdraw money. I usually check for things like this so be very careful.
If you have to withdraw money from the bank do so with the cash machines inside the banks. They are usually more secure than external ones.
